For some time we at the Institute for Interstellar Studies have had ambitions to launch a set of prize awards, all under the umbrella of the Alpha Centauri Prize. These have the intention of incentivising progress in interstellar flight. We are looking for financial backers to support various versions of these awards, so please get in touch if this interests you. The first of these was launched at the recent Starship Congress in Dallas, Texas, sponsored by Icarus Interstellar on this occasion and it was known as the “Progenitor Award“.
We are now thrilled to announce the launch of a second award under the Alpha Centauri Prize awards which is called the “Proxima Award“. This is awarded to a member of the Institute for Interstellar Studies who has contributed to our mission, with a standard of excellence that is notable and distinguished, going above and beyond the duties expected of their role, to the benefit of interstellar flight. The award is made by the I4IS Executive Director Kelvin F.Long, The two Deputy Directors George Abbey Jnr and Rob Swinney, the Chariman and Deputy Chairman of the Senior Advisory Council Gregory Matloff and Chris Welch.
