When Alexander Gerst, Germany's European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut, sets off for the ISS on 6 June 2018 to spend his second six months in a microgravity environment he will be working on the largest international technology project of all time. The experiments are designed as contributions to solutions for global societal challenges such as health, the environment and climate change, as well as digitalisation, Industry 4.0, energy and future mobility.
