The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is pleased to announce its 2017 IAF World Space Award that recognises a most eminent person with exceptional merit in space science, space technology, space medicine, space law or space management who has made a fundamental and global impact upon the world’s progress in astronautics.
The call for nominations for the IAF World Space Award is addressed to IAF member organisations in good standing, IAF officers and chairpersons of the IAF technical and administrative committees.
Nominations should contain:
A short citation of the exceptional merits (5 lines maximum)
A justification specifying the impact of the merits to the progress of space activities on a global scale (no more than 2 pages)
A biography of the nominee including, i.e. the nominee’s profile, career achievements and history, education, list of publications, etc.
At least 3 letters of support by international personalities qualified to nominate and addressing the contributions of the nominee.
During the IAF Spring Meetings in March 2017, the IAF Honours and Awards Committee will review the nominations received for the IAF World Space Award and make a recommendation for the recipient to the IAF Bureau. If no suitable candidate is found, this award will not be given in 2017.
The award consists of a medal and the recipient will also be included into a special section of the IAF Hall of Fame. His registration fees of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) will be waived for the year of induction.
The IAF World Space Award recipient is inducted during the Opening Ceremony of the 68th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Adelaide, Australia. He/she will also be offered to give a highlight lecture during the 68th IAC. The IAF World Space Award recipient is invited to participate in the Gala Dinner of the IAC as a special guest of the IAF President.
