On the 2nd of February 2011 6 astronauts entered orbit around the red planet, well kind of astronauts haven’t actually landed on Mars yet this is the Mars 500 mission which is a study into the effects of an actual Mars mission on the people who would go on such a great endeavour.
The study is run by Russia’s Institute of Biomedical Problems (RIBP) with the participation of the European Space Agency and it will last 520 days during which the three Russian two European and one Chinese astronauts will be sealed in an isolation chamber which consists of a chamber which imitates the space craft that they would be living and traveling in on their way to mars and also the return trip to Earth. The other part of the chamber simulates the landing module that would take them to the martian surface and this chamber opens into a large chamber which is made up to be like the martian surface in which the astronauts will conduct experiments as if there were actually on the surface of Mars.
