I'm in Chicago for the next few days for the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and will be posting occasionally on interesting physics topics as I encounter them. But a different kind of...I'm in Chicago for the next few days for the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and will be posting occasionally on interesting physics topics as I encounter them. But a different kind of annual event is coming to Pasadena later this month: eminent physicist Stephen Hawking will be arriving for his usual month-long stint at Caltech, per a charming guest post over at Cosmic Variance by black hole guru Kip Thorne, a good friend of Hawking's. That's excellent news not just for scientific colleagues, but also for members of the public eager to hear Hawking speak in person, because -- among his many other activities -- Hawking will be giving a public lecture in the newly renovated Pasadena Convention Center on Monday, March 9th, at 8 PM, on "Why We [the human race] Should Go Into Space." There's seats a-plenty this time around, so anyone who's interested and will be in the LA area ...
