In an opinion paper available online here, Dr. Lyra of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Germany has offered a naming convention for all exoplanets, now numbering over 400. Dr. Lyra proposes naming the exoplanets with deference to the constellation within which they are found. Along the way, in his 28-page opinion piece, Lyra offers a brief synopsis of the constellation mythology which itself is enlightening. It will be interesting to see if the IAU adopts the naming convention presented by Dr. Lyra.
