China launched the Shiyan Weixing 5 spacecraft using a Long March 2D launch vehicle from the Jiuquan space centre in China. The spacecraft is officially for use as an experimental research and environmental surveying satellite. Western analysts believe that Shiyan Weixing 5 uses the Cast 100 bus and will be used for high resolution remote sensing. The satellite was placed in a sun-synchronous low Earth orbit.
