Canadian MDA Corp. is buying Space Systems/Loral:
/-- Loral to Sell Space Systems/Loral to MDA in a Transaction That Delivers More Than US$1 Billion of Pre-Tax Value to Loral - SS/Loral
/-- MacDonald Dettwiler to buy Loral subsidiary for $875 million - Reuters

This is quite a switch from a few years ago when ATK tried to buy MDA but was blocked from doing so by the Canadian government.

It will be interesting to see if this merger has any impact on MDA's satellite servicing program. MDA wanted a NASA and/or DoD contract before going forward with its sat servicing system but this was problematic because of MDA's lack of a significant US presence. Perhaps now having a big US subsidiary will solve this problem.

Also, SS/Loral was in a collaboration that sought one of the ISS cargo delivery contracts using a system based on a space tug derived from a Loral satellite. Maybe there will be some synergies in this area as well.
